International Day of Clean Energy
Shaping the clean energy conversation through accessible, evidence-driven publications
As Africa accelerates its transition toward clean and secure energy systems, the quality of information shaping policy and investment decisions has never been more important. Across the continent, well-researched, clearly communicated publications are playing a critical role in translating complex energy data into actionable insight. Our work, spanning editorial support, translation, design and layout, desktop publishing, and the development of clear graphs and infographics, has contributed to strengthening this knowledge ecosystem and advancing informed dialogue on clean energy.
At the heart of effective energy discourse lies accessibility. Energy regulation, financing models, grid resilience, gender inclusion, and emerging technologies are inherently technical subjects. Without careful editorial framing and visual interpretation, valuable research risks remaining inaccessible to policymakers, investors, civil society, and communities. By applying consistent, intuitive infographics and data visualisations across publication series, these reports enable readers to grasp trends, compare country performance, and understand policy implications quickly and accurately.
This approach is exemplified in the Regulatory Review of the Electricity Market in Africa Towards Crowding-in Private Sector Investment, developed by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the RES4Africa Foundation. As part of a broader series of 17 country energy reports, the publication presents a structured, comparative analysis of electricity markets through indicators of openness, readiness, and attractiveness. Clear charts, comparative tables, and country-specific visuals allow stakeholders to assess regulatory environments at a glance, supporting evidence-based decisions and reinforcing the role of public-private partnerships in strengthening national energy sectors.
Similarly, Agrovoltaics: Harvesting Solar Energy in the Mediterranean demonstrates how well-designed publications can bridge sectors. Addressing the intersection of energy, agriculture, land use, and water security, the report combines policy analysis with visual storytelling to illustrate how photovoltaic systems can coexist with farming. Country-specific imagery and clear frameworks help communicate best practices and policy actions across diverse Mediterranean contexts, supporting regional dialogue on resource efficiency and climate resilience.
The importance of inclusive energy transitions is powerfully underscored in Women in Energy: A Just Transition, or Just a Transition. Through structured visuals and accessible language, the report highlights gender gaps across access, education, employment, leadership, entrepreneurship, and policy. Infographics transform qualitative and quantitative findings into compelling narratives, reinforcing the case for gender-responsive energy policies and ensuring the conversation around transition remains grounded in equity and social justice.
Policy-focused analysis also benefits significantly from clarity in presentation, as seen in Navigating the Transition in Times of Uncertainty: From Energy Security to Electricity Security in North Africa. By visually mapping the energy trilemma and transition pathways, the publication supports nuanced discussions around decarbonisation, resilience, and regional integration, positioning renewable energy as both a security and sustainability solution.
The AMDA Benchmarking Africa’s Minigrids Report further illustrates the power of data-driven storytelling. Drawing on high-quality data from developers across Africa, the report’s charts and infographics capture falling costs, increasing scale, and persistent bottlenecks within the minigrid sector. It presents Nigeria’s progress as a practical blueprint for replication, transforming the report into both a reflection of progress and a roadmap for scaling energy access. Complementing this work, the Automating Minigrid Data Collection: BAM Pilot Study highlights the next frontier of sector maturity. By demonstrating the value of automated data collection, standardised key performance indicators, and real-time insights the study positions digital data collection as a transparent, scalable foundation for building investor confidence and driving sector-wide growth.
Together, these publications demonstrate that editorial rigour, thoughtful design, and clear data visualisation are not ancillary but central to advancing Africa’s clean energy conversation. By making complex information understandable and comparable, they support smarter policy, crowd-in investment, and help align stakeholders around a shared vision for a sustainable energy future.
