Summary

This volume brings together papers from the inaugural annual conference of the International Relations Society of Kenya (IRSK), held in October 2023 under the theme “International Relations and Diplomacy in an Era of Polycrisis and Geostrategic Competition in the COMESA Region.”

The book explores the complex challenges facing the COMESA region, including conflicts, climate change, economic shocks, governance deficits, and external geostrategic pressures, and their implications for peace, security, and regional integration. It underscores that integration is not only an economic project but also a political and social one, requiring stronger institutions, better policy implementation, and a shared vision among member states.

Serving both as a scholarly resource and a call to action, this volume invites policymakers, researchers, and regional stakeholders to rethink strategies for resilience, cooperation, and sustainable development in COMESA.
